Kasempa Town Council, His Worship the Chairperson has today commissioned an ablution block at the main bus station and a refuse tractor with a tipping trailer which will enhance service delivery.
Dr. Kakonkanya said the ablution block is installed with a solar powered borehole and an overhead water tank, which will enable it to operate 24/7. The facility is also installed with modern showers, flushable toilets and urinals to serve the wider members of the public in a dignified manner.
The infrastructure has been constructed at the total cost of K956, 000.00 grant from Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural development while the refuse tractor with a tipping trailer has been procured at the total cost of K1, 000, 000.00 with support from the World Bank through the Zambia Development Support Program (ZDSP).
He said his office in the recent past has received numerous complaints from members of the public for lack of a 24/7 ablution block at the main bus station.
Dr. Kakonkanya said this in his speech when he commissioned the ablution block and the refuse tractor and tipping trailer.
He said the ablution block will enhance sanitation and help serve members of the public better and in turn enable the council to collect revenue for improved service delivery.
Dr. Kakonkanya said the construction of the ablution block has created job opportunities for four local people who have since been employed as revenue agents as well as employment to our local contractor (Elina Construction and Supplies Ltd) who constructed it.
The Chairperson said the refuse tractor is another score to the people of Kasempa as we have been grappling with the challenge of the rapid piling up of garbage following unprecedented population growth both in the township and other areas such as Muselepete, Dengwe and Nselauke. This had since resulted in increased cost of solid
waste management by the council.
He said with this refuse tractor, the narrative will now change as the tractor will enable the local authority collect garbage more frequently and effectively with reduced cost.
Dr. Kakonkanya expressed gratitude to President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Hakainde Hichilema for his good governance and excellent bilateral relations which is attracting good cooperating partners such as the World Bank.
He said the Council will remain grateful to the World Bank for this good gesture and pledge to take good care of the property.
Dr. Kakonkanya implored residents to guard the property jealously against vandalism and graffiti as the property was theirs.
He further prodded members of the public to desist from all manner of nuisance and instead use this fee paying toilet responsibly in order to make Kasempa clean and healthy.
The event was also attended by the District Commissioner, Mr Hyden Songezha, Kasempa Town Council, Council Secretary Ms Liyungu Mungandi, heads of government departments and people from all walks of life who came to witness the event. For the Speech Click Here
